Mira’s “first” Halloween was a blast

20091031-3
Okay officially it is Mira’s second Halloween but she wore a costume and greeted Trick or Treaters for the very first time. She had fun and even insisted on given out candy as if she knew all along that was she was supposed to do. Kids from our street were the first to show up followed by kids from other parts of the neighborhood. Mira might even have play date with one of the Trick or Treaters that she met. There were angels, Spider Men, Transformers, Dragons, and Dinosaurs. Here are some photos from last night, all are of Mira’s of course, didn’t want to make other parents mad :-)

The Americans (PK Edition) [Images from The Indiana State Fair 2009]

Indiana State Fair 2009 Tractor Shuttle or Midwest on Wheels

Recently I borrowed Robert Frank’s book “The Americans” from the Glendale branch of the IMCPL. It is a collection of photographs taken by the author and is considered to be one of the most important collections of of photographs since WWII. I wish I could do the same, but I have to be realistic. Instead of venturing out and traveling the country, I decided to go where the people from all walks of life are guaranteed to show up – the State Fair. At first I thought about walking around the State Fair grounds and taking photos, but it was too uncomfortable (with a baby stroller) and difficult for me especially with the crowds milling around. Then I had a great idea – again inspired by Robert Frank’s photo (see below):

I decided to park myself on a bench under a tree and wait for the Tractor Shuttle to go by. I set my camera to 1/500 s at f/16 to ensure I had enough DOF and not worry about focussing too much and only composition. What you see above are all the photos put together to look like one big Tractor Shuttle.
